When I was 9 years old I never imagined that I would one day become the 1st person from Alabama, the 1st African American and the 1st black athlete from any country to win a Gold medal in the Winter Olympics. For nearly 20 years I dreamed of going to the Summer Olympics, running my victory lap and Listening to the crowd cheer USA! In 1996 and in 2000 I failed to make the Summer Olympic Team. It would have been easy to give up on my dreams, start a family and return to coaching Instead I chose to crossover. On February 19, 2002 I represented my country, I heard the crowd cheer USA and I became an Olympic Champion! Maybe it's time for you to crossover?
